The Society for Systematic and Veterinary Bacteriology (SBSV: Société de Bactériologie Systématique et Vétérinaire) is a non-profit scientific and educational association created under the French law of July 01, 1901 and the decree of August 16, 1901. It is registered to the "Prefecture de la Haute-Garonne" under the number 3/31215 [see Journal Officiel de la République Française (Official Gazette of the French Republic), Associations et Fondations d'entreprises: January 27, 2001, p. 388].

The SBSV was created in order to promote the scientific study of bacterial systematics and veterinary bacteriology. The SBSV will pay particular attention to support exchanges of information and diffusion of knowledge.

The SBSV takes or has taken an active part in four Web sites (see the French version).
